Washington State Broker Exam - Things to know & How it's graded
The State Broker portion deals with topics relating particularly to Washington real estate license law.
- There are 30 multiple-choice questions on the State Broker examination.
- The examination may include 5 ADDITIONAL questions that are being “pretested” for use in future versions of these examinations.
- You won't know which they are and your answer won't be included in results.
- You get 90 minutes to complete it
- There may be multiple right answers but you should select the MOST correct one.
- For scenario-based questions, there is multi-point scoring.
- These items are associated with scenarios presented in the form of text, graphs, or tables that represent a situation in which you must identify the best course of action by selecting only ONE option.
- Each option is weighted 2 (most) - 0 (least) points, based on the completeness and accuracy of the solution.

The State Managing Broker Examination
Note: The scope of this course is geared for the Broker Exam, however the course content includes the core concepts of the Washington real estate laws, so it could potentially be used for this exam as well as a study aid.
Please note, as you probably already know, for the Managing Broker exam you'll want to truly apply the concepts stated in this course.
The State Managing Broker Examination deals with topics relating particularly to Washington real estate license law.
- There are 44 multiple-choice questions, including scenario-based items, that are used to compute your score.
- Ninety (90) minutes or 1.5 hours are allowed to complete the exam.
- The scenario-based items utilize a multiple-choice format and incorporate multi-point scoring. These items are associated with scenarios presented in the form of text, graphs, or tables that represent a situation in which candidates must identify the best course of action by selecting only ONE option. Each option is weighted as zero-point, one-point, or two-points based on the completeness and accuracy of the solution. In addition to the questions used to compute your score, the examination may include five questions that are being “pretested” for use in future versions of this examination. These pretest questions are not identified, and your answers to them do not affect your score. A detailed content outline is given at the back of the handbook.
If you're approved to take the reciprocity exam, you have 6 months to pass the state exam and can retake it as many times as scheduling allows. If you don't pass within 6 months, you must submit a new application and license history.
